In Science 9, students learn about reproduction (asexual and sexual), basics of chemistry like naming and compounds, dive into the math behind electric circuits and finally learn about sustainability and matter and energy cycles.
Social Studies 10 focuses on the growth of Canada from colony to nationhood from 1815 to 1914. Various themes are revisited throughout the course, including immigration and the face of Canada's cultural mosaic, the use of art as a reflection of history, the changing nature of democracy and the role of the First Nations in Canada's development. Themes from the past are linked to current issues and events whenever possible. As a multidisciplinary subject, Social Studies draws from the social sciences and humanities to study human interaction and natural and social environments. Students should develop into thoughtful, responsible citizens able to consider multiple perspectives and defend a position. Whereas the BC Social Studies 10 curriculum provides students with opportunities to critically reflect upon events and issues in order to examine the past and make connections, instruction at West Coast Adventist School will focus on issues of social justice and resource management from a Christian perspective.
Social Studies 9 focuses on how empires and revolutions changed societies worldwide. Grade 9 Social Studies covers the period from 1750 to 1919. Students will explore big themes such as conflict, political, social and technological revolution, nationalism, colonialism and imperialism and the impact of these forces on indigenous people in Canada and worldwide. At the end of this course, students will be well equipped to use evidence to determine significance, cause and consequence, continuity and change, perspective, and ethical judgements.
This course is for students with basic background knowledge of Spanish. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation of the Spanish language. Students will learn to use their new language, such as talking about hobbies and the weather, visiting new places, shopping and ordering food.
This course builds on Italian 10 and further develops listening, writing, reading and speaking skills, emphasizing communicative competence. Language structures and vocabulary are taught through topics such as daily routine, special celebrations, and professions.
This course builds on Spanish 11 and further develops listening, writing, reading and speaking skills, emphasizing communicative competence. Language structures and vocabulary are reviewed as the student is exposed to more complex grammar, vocabulary and reading selections.
This pathway is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into trades and direct entry into the workforce. Topics include comparisons of the imperial and metric systems of measurement, understanding and using the Pythagorean theorem, understanding primary trigonometric ratios, types of graphs, surface area and volume, central tendency, and gross and net pay.
In Workplace Math 11, students study various topics, including slope, budgeting and financial literacy and 2D representations of 3D objects, and graph interpretation.

Studying psychology serves to develop a greater understanding of human development and behaviour. Students who acquire sensitivity to multiple perspectives can make reasoned judgments about the relative merits of their own behaviour, as well as the behaviour of others. Psychology 11 will introduce students to psychology and its links to developmental stages and the breadth of areas included in psychology, from learning about stress to helping students understand some career options related to psychology.
