In this course, students will explore the questions 'Who am I?' and 'How can I express what matters to me?' To do this, students will practice skills such as analyzing, interpreting and composing fiction, non-fiction, and poetry to generate and answer questions about personal, social, and cultural identity. Ongoing modules in this course include weekly grammar and editing assignments and daily reading.
In English Studies 12, students will have opportunities to read and analyze numerous works of literature and sources, incorporating their interests into their research, writing, and creative projects. Students will learn the skills necessary to detect bias in literary works, uncover hidden meaning and symbolism in poems and stories, write first-year college-level essays, and present quality speeches professionally.
This course is designed to introduce the basic marketing principles, practices, and the application of these practices. In addition, students will prepare a professional marketing plan proposal, development and problem-solving skills, understand the importance of making ethical decisions, develop business etiquette, analyze possible solutions to specific business problems, and develop an increased understanding of the business world.
Students are introduced to a variety of historical events that have shaped society as we know it today, starting with the Cold War era of the late 20th century through to the recent September 11 attacks of 2001. Students will also have the chance to research and discover current events happening in their modern society and create various projects using their unique multiple intelligence skills.
Family Studies focuses on human growth and development, interpersonal relationships, human and material resources management, and social and physical environments. The curriculum encourages students to use decision-making, communication, and problem-solving processes in various learning situations. The overall aim is to provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to meet the challenge of our dynamic and complex society. In Family and Society 10, students learn about different types of families and how these depend on culture and time period. Students also learn the keys to success in maintaining relationships and ending negative ones. Additionally, this course includes content on challenges that families face, including the impacts of society on the family and the ethics of cultural appropriation. The course culminates in students solving a service design challenge using the Applied Design method.
This course encourages regular, enjoyable physical activity that contributes to a healthy body and mind. Students plan their own programs and choose their own activities, which might range from something as simple as walking the dog to participating in team sports. In addition to the physical activity program, written activities and readings promote and facilitate an active lifestyle.

This pathway is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of math and critical-thinking skills needed in post-secondary programs, both in more and less math-related fields. Topics include trigonometry, factorization including polynomials, exponent laws, relations and functions and financial literacy associated with the workplace.

French 9 is an introduction to French. Students will learn the basics of the language, including greetings, essential questions and vocabulary.

Life Sciences 11 studies four main topics: 1) Ecology, 2) Cell Biology, 3) Plant Biology and 4) Evolution and Microbiology.
This course offers students a strong base for reading and writing in high school. Learning to write effectively, concisely, and creatively is the main focus, along with reading rich, relevant literature that brings issues and meaningful choices to the discussion table. Along with literature, students are presented with media samples to analyze and evaluate. In this class, students also have the opportunity to speak in front of a group and grow their public speaking skills. This course is an amalgamation of two 2-credit courses for a total of 4 credits. If you wish to take only one component (Literature or Composition) and are a cross-enrolled student, please let the office know this when you enroll.
This class encourages students to explore their writing voice and experiment with different writing styles and techniques. They are expected to read more in-depth literature with layered meanings and plots and are exposed to poetry both for appreciation and technical evaluation. Students in Literary Studies 11 have the opportunity to research a topic of their choice to produce a first-year college-quality research paper.
In Mathematics 9, students will engage in problem-solving experiences that use reasoning and logic to analyze and apply mathematical ideas. During this course, students study rational numbers, determine square roots, work with powers and exponents, calculate scale factors, learn about polynomials and linear relations and equations, and learn about budgeting and data analysis in society!
Students will work through 9 thematic projects focusing on lighting, subject matter, and composition to create successful photographs. Projects include photography-based projects, critiques, artist research assignments, a history of photography series, and a photographer research project. This course was designed specifically for low-tech digital cameras or cell phone cameras.
Physical and Health Education 8/9/10 has been developed so that the same course can be taken by students in Grades 8, 9, or 10. It can also be taken more than once with different activities being done in each grade. In PHE 9, students must participate in 30 minutes of daily physical activity and submit a log sheet of their activities. In addition, they will complete several Big Idea projects such as posters, presentations, or videos to express interest in a specific sport, a healthy way of eating, or something that piques their interest and relates to health and physical activity.
This course covers the physical and human-created systems of the world by studying people, places, environments and their interrelationships. It closely examines the Nature of Geography, Systems of the Earth, and Resources of the Earth. Through this course, students will be able to develop an analytical understanding of how local, regional, and global environments affect them and ways to maintain the balance of those systems for the future sustainability of Earth's resources.
The study of physics aims to understand the universe around us. Why do things work the way they work? Physics 11 studies a variety of topics ranging from kinematics to Newton's laws of motion, waves and sound, and electric circuits.
When we study physics, we want to find out how the world around us works. This includes the smallest electrons and the largest stars. In Physics 12, students will be studying several topics from Physics 11 in more detail, and you will also be working on many new topics with magnetism, including electromagnetic induction.

Topics include quadratics, financial literacy, linear and quadratic inequalities, rational and radical equations, and trigonometry.
Pre-Calc 12 is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for entry into post-secondary programs requiring theoretical calculus. Topics include transformations and a wide variety of functions ranging from polynomials to rational functions.
In Science 10, students learn about DNA and heredity, chemical concepts such as acids and bases and energy changes, how energy transformation fuels our world, and the Big Bang theory of universe formation.
